Wildflower Planting with the 6th Winchester Scouts

And several weeks later, there were flowers!

As part of our aim to create a wilder and greener neighbourhood, Wilder Hyde has recently taken on a new initiative, working together with the 6th Winchester Scouts troop. On two evenings in May, the Scouts met up with Wilder Hyde member, Sarah Williamson, who told them all about Wilder Hyde as well as the importance of rewilding and looking out for hedgehogs.

They were then organised into small groups to gently weed and then heavily seed – with wildflowers of course – the front and side gardens of residents who had signed up for the scheme. They also spent time litter picking on the River Park. Both evenings were very successful, in spite of the wind and the ever present threat of rain! All the Scouts seemed genuinely interested in the whole project and approached their jobs with enthusiasm and energy. We hope to repeat this again soon.
